Emergency Appeal: Earthquake Relief for Eastern Afghanistan
A devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan late on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 11:47 PM local time. The epicenter was located 27 kilometers east-northeast of Jalalabad, near the border with Pakistan, affecting the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, and Laghman.
The Impact • More than 1,400 confirmed dead, with the majority in Kunar province. • More than 3,000 injured, including many women and children. • Entire villages destroyed, with families trapped under rubble. • Critical infrastructure damaged, including roads, hospitals, and schools. • Aftershocks and landslides continue to hinder rescue efforts.
